Music
At Stockton Wood Primary School, we know that music has many benefits for the well being of the children that we teach. We believe that a singing school is a successful school. At our school we believe that children should be provided with as many opportunities as possible to listen to, appreciate and perform music. We are lucky to have a music specialist Mr Wheatcroft who provides extra-curricular music lessons to a number of year groups and delivers whole class lessons.
Below is an overview of what the children cover in each Key Stage.

In Key Stage 1 the children will learn to use their voices to sing expressively through learning songs and chants linked to their topic. They will begin to develop an awareness of the different interrelated dimensions of music through listening to a range of live and recorded music, and exploring and playing tuned and untuned instruments, which will include contributing to group and class compositions. They will also have the opportunity to listen to and appraise a range of different genres.
In Key Stage 2 the children will develop their knowledge and understanding of the different interrelated dimensions of music through composing and performing music linked to their topic, in addition to exploring music from other countries, cultures and that of great composers. In Key Stage 2 children have the opportunity to take part in additional music lessons with our specialist Mr Wheatcroft.
Progression in music will be assessed through listening to musical responses and making regular video and audio recordings of their learning.

Music Week !
This week we have had lots of fun with our musical instruments. We learnt all about following the beat.
Rock Steady – Summer Performance 🎶
Yesterday, our children who have been going to ‘Rock Steady’ lessons performed their summer concert. It was an amazing, the children have made great progress this term.

Music – Keyboards
This week in Music, Year 3 practised scales, played the C chord and performed the tune ‘Ode to Joy’.

3McK enjoyed preforming everything they have learnt on the keyboard this half term.
Music Week
This week reception are exploring music. Today we have explored lots of different instruments, learning their names and playing them ourselves. We have also followed and repeated a beat!
We have also watched a music zoom with different musicians who showed us how they play different instruments!
Musical Monday
Lovely interactive performance this afternoon listening to Alex and Archie playing the violin and accordion.
Y2 music
Year 2 had a lovely time at the Philharmonic Hall… they sang, danced and watched the artist paint to the music!

Year 2 Music
Year 2 learnt the song ‘sunshine’ before improvising with our instruments. Here we are warming up for our music lesson.
Music and Beatboxing
Reception had an amazing time on the Music zoom. We learnt all about beatboxing and tried some ourselves!

Keyboard Performances
3M enjoyed performing in their Music lesson last week. They all showcased our school values by showing respect while listening to each performance and encouraging each other to succeed.

On Wednesday, Year 3 got the opportunity to preform what they have learnt so far on the Keyboards!
Year 4 Music
Today we listened to ‘You can see it through’, the children couldn’t stop dancing to the electronic dance music. We then played along on the glockenspiels.

Musical Mondays
Year 3 loved listening to Chroma Harp Duo yesterday. They had the opportunity to ask questions while enjoying some wonderful music from the harps!
Year 2 Music
This week in music we learnt a new song ‘I wanna play in a band.’ we played our glockenspiels along with the song. We are getting better and better at this.
Year 3 Keyboard Lessons
We have enjoyed playing different notes in Keyboard lessons. We have also been practising playing at the same time.
Gospel Music
4D really enjoyed exploring the gospel song ‘ Train is A-Coming’ in today’s music lesson.
Keyboard Practice
Year 3 were excited to be back learning the keyboards with Mr Wheetcroft. Today we started to learn two new songs, ‘Havana Breeze’ and ‘The Dancing Master’. We have now learnt the notes B, C, D, E, F, G and A.
Music Performance
Year 3 throughly enjoyed music this week with Mr Wheetcroft. Everyone got the opportunity to perform their favourite piece of music from the half term. Well done everyone!
Year 2 Music
This week we learnt how to play the glockenspiels for the ‘Music Man’ song and performed the song for the final time.
Music- Keyboards
Year 3 have really enjoyed their keyboard lessons with Mr. Wheatcroft this half term.
Year 2 Music
This week 2D and 2S combined together to learn yet song: The Music Man. We loved adding actions to the music and moving to the beat.
Musical Monday
Year 3 really enjoyed their musical Monday where they got to watch Ali’s Huws play her harp. She also taught us a lot about the harp as well!
Year 2 Music
This week in music we learnt a new song and played the Glockenspiel’s to the music. Eventually we will be able to play along to the song as others sing it.
Keyboards
3McK are very excited to start learning the keyboard with Mr Wheetcroft. On Friday we started by learning the notes E, F and G.
3M Music
3M enjoyed their first keyboard session this week. They played the notes E, G and F.
Music
Year 3 enjoyed interacting with Resonate’s Music performance with Borges and Machado. They took us on a musical trip to Brazilian Culture.

Musical talent in 5M!
This afternoon, we were able to read and play music to go with the song that we learnt last week.
Year 2 Music
2S love their weekly music session. Here we are warming up our faces and our voices ready to learn our new song ‘Music is in me.’ This songs requires a choral response which was tricky to learn.
