Welcome to the class page for Year 4!
At Stockton Wood, we Lay the Foundations for Life.

Year 4 Staff:
4J: Mrs Jones
4M: Miss Martin
Information for Parents
Stockton Wood is a Restorative School. In Year 4 we use emojis to check-in to share how we are feeling and this helps us to manage our feelings.
The children are looking forward to a great year of learning, including listening to stories by new authors, learning outdoors, exploring the world around them as scientists and being physically active.
Class Dojos are used to celebrate achievements and praise efforts!
General Reminders
PE Days
4J: Friday
4M: Thursday
Reading is at the heart of everything we do, so please try and read with your
child every night. Ask them questions about what they have read, encouraging them to talk about the book, whether it is a story or non-fiction. This will help them with their reading comprehension.
Reading books can be changed as soon as your child has completed their book.
Your child can bring a water bottle to school, containing water only.

Dyslexia Awareness
This afternoon in assembly, we discussed how dyslexia can affect different things for different people. A person with dyslexia can be good at some things but need support with other things. It is important to remember that people with dyslexia also have great strengths too and that at our school we support each other no matter what our differences are.

Stay and Learn – Reading
A huge thank you to all the parents who joined us for this morning’s Stay and Learn session! We explored how we use Ready Steady Read Together in school and shared helpful tips and strategies to support reading at home.
Children, let’s keep the story going!
Please remember to bring your reading book to school every day!
Science – Data Handling
Year 4 became scientists as we explored our school grounds on a welly walk! We looked for examples of vertebrates, invertebrates, flowering plants and non-flowering plants, recording our findings using a tally chart.
We will use our collected data to create graphs and present our findings, helping us to compare the living things we discovered and develop our data-handling skills.
Will our findings be different in Spring? Why?

PSHE – Listening, sharing and respecting others.
4M took part in a fishbowl activity as part of our Restorative Practice work. We practised listening carefully, taking turns to speak and respecting different opinions. The children reflected on how their words and actions can affect others and explored the importance of making everyone feel heard and included.
