Writing

Our writing curriculum is designed to provide a broad and balanced education that meets
the needs of all children. We follow the award-winning Ready Steady Write from Literacy
Counts to develop confident, independent and successful writers with high aspirations.
Our writing curriculum is research-informed and impact-proven, carefully designed to
support all children to master the foundational skills and write for a clear audience and
purpose. Through the use of high-quality, vocabulary-rich texts, we provide exciting and
meaningful reasons to write. Children are immersed in literature and taught to craft their
writing with precision, using a range of pedagogical approaches, including sentence
accuracy, modelled writing and shared writing, as well as regular opportunities for editing.
We value spoken language as a foundation for writing. Through structured talk, drama and
vocabulary exploration, children learn how to organise and express their ideas clearly
before writing them down. Our aim is for every child – regardless of need – to write fluently
and take pride in their work. We want our pupils to leave primary school as enthusiastic
writers, ready for the next stage of their education.

English – Writing Chatter

Great sharing of ideas for persuasive writing using extracts from the vehicle and example texts.

5D English editing
After each piece of writing, the children in 5D take the opportunity to peer assess one another’s work. This enables them to magpie ideas, reflect on their own writing, and support their classmates in producing the best possible piece of work.

Writing
Reception have had the help from our story friends to write their own story inspired by The Extraordinary Gardener. We have worked hard to remember to use capital letters, finger spaces and full stops in our sentences.

Writing
Reception have been working hard to improve our writing skills. Using the text ‘The Extraordinary Gardener’ to help us, we have written instructions on how to grow a big beautiful tree! When we write we use sound charts to support us and we make sure to use capital letters, finger spaces and full stops!

Survival skills in 5H
5H took their learning outside during English, using the natural environment to inspire ideas for survival skills. The children explored the school grounds, discussing and taking notes on what they would need to stay safe, find shelter and work as a team in a survival situation. This sparked great creativity and inspired 5H to develop ideas before bringing it back into the classroom to support their writing.

Reception Learning
What an amazing start to the week! Reception have been exploring their classrooms and outdoor areas. We are exploring numbers to 20, the festival of Holi and continuing to write independently.

Growing up !
In Reception, we have been learning about growing up and how we change over time. We talked about all the ways we are different now compared to when we were babies, such as being able to walk, talk, and do more things by ourselves. We looked at baby pictures of ourselves, which helped us see how much we have grown and changed. It was exciting to notice the differences and think about all the new skills we have learned as we have gotten older.

Special places 🏠
In school, we have been talking all about our special place in RE. We drew our own pictures and wrote a sentence to describe why our place is special to us. It was lovely to see all the different ideas and places everyone chose. We had lots of fun sharing our special places with our friends and listening to each other’s stories.

Year One – English
Great exploring vocabulary using role-play in class today. Super application recording a range new words and phrases into full sentences.

Publishing
We are writing up the 4 parts to our story ‘Where the wild things are’. We are working on our handwriting and presentation.

Supertato
This week Reception have been exploring Supertato. We have become super hero’s to save the fruit and vegetables from Evil Pea.

Year 5 Hound of the Baskervilles
Last week we started our new book The Hound of the Baskervilles by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. We acted as detectives to explore the text and discuss the clues.
