💻 Year 1 Computing

Our Year 1 children have been developing their computing skills . We have been they exploring Sketch.io and enjoyed creating their own digital drawings. We have also practised using the keyboard to discover where different letters are located. The children are building their confidence and developing their skills in using technology. 🌟

1B – Stay and learn☺️

A lovely stay and learn session in year 1! Our grown-ups joined us for a fun reading activity, sharing a book with their child before rolling the dice to complete a matching challenge. It was lovely to see everybody reading together 📚🥰. 

Reverend Phil visit

1B loved welcoming Reverend Phil into our classroom! We learnt about the creation story, asked some thoughtful questions and listened to Reverend Phil share his beliefs. Thank you for such an interesting visit! We look forward to our visit to explore church for our next topic😃.

1B-Royal ballet zoom 🩰

We enjoyed a special zoom session learning about royal ballet 🩰. We loved learning different ballet moved and putting them into practice. 

Maths Party Day 🧮🔢

We had so much fun celebrating Maths Party Day! The children explored different 2D shapes and used their creativity to design and create their own pictures through art. The children thought carefully about the shapes that they were using, recognising and combining them to make wonderful pictures!😊

Stay and Learn – Reading

Thank you to all our wonderful families for coming to our Stay and Learn session yesterday! We are so grateful to you all for coming and playing our fab reading game with us. Some families even wanted to take one home to play again!

Our visit from Reverend Phil

What a lovely way to end our RE unit! Reverend Phil came to talk to us about the creation story. We also planned some interesting interview questions. Reverend Phil talked us through his own faith and his beliefs. Thank you so much! We can’t wait to visit church soon 🥰

Ballet – Royal Ballet and Opera!

This morning, we are enjoying a live zoom session learning all about the history of ballet, and learning some fantastic ballet moves!

Life Savers Big Question 1: Where does our money come from?

We thought really carefully about our first LifeSavers question of the year. And as you can see, we had so we fantastic answers!

Maths Party Day! 🥳

We loved maths party day. We created art through the use of shape! We used a variety of different shapes, in all different sizes, and created our own pictures! How fabulous!

Computing – using keys on the keyboard to control a game

We extended our learning even further today by learning how to use keys on a keyboard to control a game! Computing really is a highlight of our week 🌟

English…HOOK!

We have started the next unit in our English lessons today…we had some clues! Long blonde hair, some vine, a witches hat, a book of spells…did you guess which book we will be learning about?

6 stars on our bookmarks! 🌟

Each week, when we bring our book bag back to school, Mrs Ritchie checks our diary to see if we have read with a grown up. If we have, we get a star on our special bookmark. When we get to 6, we get to visit Mrs Clovis and we receive our special badge! Mrs Clovis was incredibly proud of all of us. We can’t wait to get the next few stars, and get our second prize!

Maths- Find a part

Our Year 1 children enjoyed a practical maths lesson exploring how to find a missing part! 🧮 They used hands-on resources to solve number problems, investigating how two parts combine to make a whole. The children had lots of fun developing their number skills and explaining their mathematical thinking! 🌟

History- Timeline

Today in history we have been looking at timelines and where we would place different toys on a timeline. We created a human timeline and discussed the different features of toys before creating our own in our books. 🧸

We also worked as a class to think of different questions to ask our grown ups at home from different generations. These questionnaires will be coming home with children tomorrow. Please can they be returned by Monday 19th October so we can discuss answers and stick them in their books.

History – chronological timelines

We looked at different toys, and decided whether they were old or new depending on what we knew about them (what they look like, what they are made from etc). We then built a human timeline of toys; toys from Victorian times, some from the 20th century, and others from modern day. We then created our own toy timeline.

Autumn walk 🍂

As part of our science learning 1B went on an autumn walk to see what we could spot. We collected leaves that had fell off trees, noticed the change in leaves and also recognised it is starting to get a little bit chilly outside.

Addition in maths

Year 1 have been mastering different methods they can use to solve additions up to ten. We have been focusing on part whole models, number lines, ten frames and counting on in our heads.

Black History Month

As part of our Black History Month learning, Year 1 explored the inspiring story of Floella Benjamin. We learnt about her journey and were inspired by her experiences. We thought carefully about what it might feel like to leave our home and move somewhere new. The children imagined that had to leave home and chose which special belongings they would take with them and why.  We also explored the different emotions Floella may have felt, such as sadness, worry, excitement and hope. The children showed great thoughtfulness throughout and created some wonderful pieces of work.❤️
