At Stockton Wood we are very lucky to have a dedicated ELSA supporting children across our school.

What is ELSA? 

ELSA stands for Emotional Literacy Support Assistant. 
An ELSA is a trained adult in school who helps children understand and manage their feelings, emotions, and relationships. 

Who is our ELSA? 

Mrs Millett is our ELSA, she works with individuals and groups of children from EYFS to Y6. She supports with friendships, emotional regulation and managing feelings and behaviour. 

What Does an ELSA Help With? 

ELSA support can help children with: 

  • Understanding and naming feelings 
  • Worries, anxiety, and big emotions 
  • Friendship problems 
  • Self-confidence and self-esteem 
  • Coping with change or loss 
  • Anger and calming strategies 

How Does ELSA Support Work? 

One-to-one or small group sessions 

Fun activities, games, stories, and crafts 

A safe, calm space to talk and learn 

Time to listen, not lessons or tests 

Who Can See an ELSA? 

Children may see an ELSA if: 

  • A teacher or parent thinks it could help 
  • The child is finding emotions or friendships tricky 
  • Support would help them feel happier in school

  • Helps children feel understood and supported 
  • Builds lifelong emotional skills 
  • Supports learning by improving wellbeing
