Year 2 Reading
Another fun time exploring books in our library, we even found books about the victorians which ties into our History topic all about Kitty Wilkinson.



Year 2 Ready Steady Comprehension
What a lot of fun we had performing our poems in our session this morning. Lots of confident performances with lots of expression! I was very proud of all of the children- Mrs Kent 🙂

Poetry performances
Today we performed poems that we have explored this week in our Ready Steady Comprehension sessions. We tried to use a range of expressive strategies to enhance our performance.





Partnership Week – USI
It was lovely to share stories and examples of pupils writing with United School International this week. 1J Stockton Wood met 1D United School International.




Collaboration and communication in action!




5M helped each other to improve their writing by sharing ideas and giving feedback. Some used a dictionary to check difficult spellings.


Year 4 – Reading
After half term, the expectation will be for all children to have their reading book in school every day.

We’ve started 2 news books in 4C. ‘The Lost Happy Endings’ by Carol Ann Duffy is our vehicle text in English and ‘The Lost thing’ by Shaun Tan is our class reader.

Reading Cafe
Year 5 and 6 had a wonderful time at our reading cafe yesterday, as part of the National Literacy event. We enjoyed finding new books, having a biscuit and a drink and even being able to take that book home!




Y2 English
2D were fabulous actors after investigating the clues and predicting what our new text was about.

World Book Day
We are dressed in beautiful colours today to celebrate World Book Day! We talked about all the colours we could see on our clothes – our carpet looked like a rainbow today 🌈 we read the Colour Monster book, and spotted the colours from the story on our clothes!

We had lots of fun celebrating World Book Day📚 We did lots of fun activities, we read with our reading buddies and we even read a story in the den we built as a team.
We all made our book mark and read our favourite story the colour monster, as for World Book Day we focused on colours. We know now how to mix different colours to make new colours!









Little Red
This week reception have continued to plan their own version of Little Red. Today build up bear helped us to plan the next section.📝








Science Week, Day 3.
Today we have had lots of fun doing a science experiment about the weather. We have learnt about the rain and got to be scientists and experiment it all on our own.







LFC Foundation Central Library Trip
Some of our Year 3 children enjoyed their trip to Central Library yesterday where they got a tour of the library and got read a story. We even programmed our own robot to tell our own made up stories!




Problem Penguin


We are a couple of weeks into our half term, and we have now sequenced our Problem Penguin! Only the Elephant Ending to go and then we will have yet another story under our belts 📕

Linking letters to sounds




We have been learning pictures sounds for a while, and now we are learning how to link those pictures to letters. The children were so excited when they realised that letter sounds are all around us! Some children found some sounds in our fine motor activity!

5M Reading for pleasure
We took a little time this morning to refocus our minds with some quiet reading time in our fabulous school library.

What a fabulous book event in the hall today! We had to guess the masked reader- so funny! And we all got a free book! Happy reading Y6!

Froggy Fever
Year 5 have been learning about life cycles of amphibians, insects and birds this afternoon. One of our pupils had a book all about frogs, from our reading cafe last term. We had time at the end of our day to find out some more interesting facts!


Well-being week
We are enjoying our well-being activities this week. Today, we sat in the cool shade to listen to our chosen story for the day. This was a wonderful idea from one of our children ❤️

This week Reception are exploring the work of Julia Donaldson. The first book we read was Cave Baby. Using natural resources such as; twigs, leaves, flowers and grass, we made our very own cave paintings.

We had a lovely relaxing time in the library sharing stories and reading with friends.

We have explored Julia Donaldson’s texts The Gruffalo and The Gruffalo’s child. We have created our own deep dark wood and made the characters!
















The Seashore
This week reception are exploring the sea and the seashore. We have explored different textures in our tuff tray. We used rice crispy for sand, jelly for the sea, rocks for rock pools and shells. Around our classroom there are lots of sea activities to explore!













The Seaside
This week reception have been exploring the seaside and animals under the sea. Our new English text The Storm Whale has inspired us! Using pastels we coloured different animals that we find under the sea. We traced the patterns to help us improve our fine motor skills!












Author Visit
Y6 enjoyed finding out about Luke Temple’s books in our author visit today!

Year 4 had an amazing visit from the fabulous author Luke Temple. Autographed books will be available to buy from school tomorrow.

KS2 Author visit – Luke Temple
Luke shared his fantastic adventure stories with us this morning. The main character is called Felix Dashwood and Luke helped us to bring the characters to life and explore the problems that they come across.
We had a chance to ask Luke some great questions and see how the illustrator brings his characters to life too!
Signed books about Felix’s adventures and the characters she meets on her way, will be on sale in school tomorrow!





Author Visit
Such a lovely time today with our visiting Author Luke Temple. We listened carefully to different extracts from three of his books and asked a range of questions. Which book would you like to read in full?








The Storm Whale 🐋
Reception have been enjoying our English book The Storm Whale 🐋! We have been writing lots of sentences with the help of our story friends. Today Wise Owl helped us to use capital letters, full stops and finger spaces.










Meeting an author!
Some of us met the author Luke Temple and got our book signed.
We were also excited to find his stories in our library for us to choose for reading for pleasure.

Every Thursday, we bring our book bags into school and choose a new book to share with our family ❤️




National Literacy Event
Years 5 and 6 enjoyed a visit from a storyteller and poet. It was fantastic to see the children engaged for over an hour, listening to his wonderful tales.


Pirate Week
This week Reception are exploring pirates. Across our classroom are lots of pirate 🏴☠️ activities for us to explore such as; pirate colour by numbers, pirate tuff tray, pirate map making and pirate stories!













Ready Steady Write
Octopus Opening helps us to plan our writing. Using the planning circle we planned our very own opening to our story.

5M enjoyed performing some of their favourite Stanzas in this week’s poems.

Today, we’ve looked over all the books we have read in our English and Reading lessons. The children discussed their favourite books and reasons why.
