Year 6 DT Week- Making Pizza
6B enjoyed researching different types of pizzas, focusing on the nutritional values and of course the taste!

5H have designed their hand steady buzzer game, which they will be making tomorrow.
YEAR 4 DT WEEK
This week, we have been exploring structures in preparation for designing our own desk tidy. Today, we painted our final design. 4D created some very impressive structures.

This week we have had great fun comparing, designing and making pizza.

This week for DT Week, we used the Kapla Blocks to build the fire station which we had visited. 🚒
5M Design and Technology
We had great fun designing these steady hand games and are looking forward to trying out each other’s to help evaluate them.
We love that we got to create an electrical circuit to test them out!

Rice crispy cakes!
This week we have been learning all about Easter. We had lots of fun and we made our own rice crispy cakes to take home. 🧁
Y2 DT Week- wheels and axles
Year 2 have been exploring wheeled toys and how their wheels and axles work, they have also been explaining what makes a good wheeled toy vehicle.
Year 4 DT
In Year 4, we are designing and making a picnic for our reception friends. Today we asked them a range of questions to find out what they like and dislike. We then went back to class to design them a perfect picnic.
Design Technology – Year One
Good research skills displayed in class today. Good discussion work all about the difference between fruit and vegetables. We now know which fruit grows on trees, bushes and vines.

This week is DT week! Reception have explored preparing food and tasting different fruits. We have practiced our cutting and knife skills.
Design a picnic for our Reception friends
Today we made our picnic. We followed our plan from the other day. We used a range of skills: speak, cut, grate, garnish and mix. We thought about appearance, texture and taste.

Preparing and tasting fruit 🍓
This week for DT week we prepared and tasted lots of different fruits. We focused on the importance of being safe when chopping the fruit. We had lots of fun! We tasted Kiwi, Mango, pineapple and strawberries, they were delicious.
After we tasted our fruit we filled in our Evaluation sheets with our favourite fruits 🍇
Y2 DT Week- wheels and axles
DT week in Y2 has been so much fun! We have researched and designed vehicles to collect rubbish on the beach- we have painted, used a saw and attached our axles and wheels to our vehicles using different methods to make our vehicles.
CREATING PICNIC
This week in DT, we have researched, planned and made a picnic for our reception classes.
4D really enjoyed putting together their picnic plates, thinking about appearance, texture and taste.
DT Week 🪚🖌️✂️
For DT week, reception designed and made their own cars! 🚘 We used scissors, card, tape and oil pastels to create our cars!

We have been exploring materials this week in understanding the world. We use blocks and foam to create houses that were stable!
Year 5 D&T week

Last week was DT week, we were tasked with making an eco friendly wheeled toy. We looked at real toys as part of our research.

After designing the cars we then got to create our toy. We painted and added design elements to make it stand out.

Last week for DT Week we used our scissor skills to make our own cars. We spoke about different ways we could make our car for it to go faster and slower.
Summer 1 fun!
5H have had so much fun learning this half term! There’s been DT week, well-being and sports day! We also celebrated the Science week engineering projects, who won certificates. Well done for all your hard work! Have a lovely half term. See you on the 3rd June for the final half term of the year!!
Tiny Tasters !
This week was our first session with Tiny Tasters. Our reception families had lots of fun during the session. They spoke all about healthy eating, focusing on the correct and safe way to prepare their food. The children got to prepare and make their own wrap, which they even got to eat! Thank you Tiny Tasters we look forward to next week. 🥗
Making wraps!
Yesterday, we made our own wraps at snack time! We named smelt the ingredients first, and talked about whether we had already tried them before. We had the chance to taste each ingredient before deciding whether we would like them on our wrap. And then the fun part…we had to make our wrap! It was trickier than we expected 😉
Making lemon cheesecake pie!
In big cook little cook, we made delicious lemon cheesecake pie! Mrs Sefton made us close our eyes so we could use our sense of smell to guess which fruit we would be using! Nice try Mrs Sefton, you couldn’t trick us! 🍋

Working together – continued
More creative designs to fit the bridge challenge brief, in Year 6 and more Success!
KAPLA
Today, 3M had a wonderful time working on the KAPLA project. We built towers that were joined together to make a castle.
Kapla Day
5H enjoyed adding to the amazing Kapla structure in the hall yesterday. We created the train on the bridge.
Making cheese scones
We carefully measured and weighed out the ingredients and made our own scone. We had to wait a while for them to cook and cool, before enjoying our scone for our snack!
Pumpkin soup 🎃
The children have really enjoyed learning more about autumn and Halloween 🎃 👻 This week, we have read the story Pumpkin Soup, and then made our very own! We helped Mrs Sefton hollow out the pumpkin, and then she carefully carved a spooky face into it. We then weighed and chopped the potatoes and pumpkin and Mrs Sefton cooked it before blending it into a delicious soup 😋

Diya Lamps 🪔
For Divali, the festival of light, we made our own diya lamps! We had lots of fun decorating them with bright colours like red, gold, blue, and green. We used paint, glitter, and stickers to make them look beautiful. Our lamps looked so shiny and colourful when they were finished. We learned that diya lamps are used to bring light and happiness during Divali. It was a fun and special activity in Reception!
Stay and Learn – DT week/maths
Thank you to all our families that were able to attend our stay and learn today! The children always enjoy welcoming you into our classroom. Our stay and learn today was all about DT week – the children had to think really carefully about the resources available to them and design and build a trap for the gingerbread man! We had to think about the sizes of the boxes, and choose things that were the right size for our model – some things were too big, some things were too small. We talked about the materials we could use to connect them – wet glue, glue sticks, cello tape, strong wide brown tape, masking tape or even string! Lots of opportunities for discussion and new vocabulary. Thanks again to all our families – we can’t wait to invite you in again soon!
DT Week
This week is DT Week! Reception are focusing on our local area. Today, we looked at Runcorn Bridge, we spoke about what a bridge is for and what they look like. Using foam blocks and shaving foam we created our very own bridges!

This afternoon we made simple circuits. We then looked at which materials could work as a switch.

DT Week – building walls
We had so much fun building different walls in our garden. We found that if we stagger the bricks, it makes the wall so much stronger!

DT Week – cutting skills
As part of DT week, we have been developing our cutting skills. We made snips in both paper and card, talking about how much trickier it is to cut the card than the paper. We made sure our hands were in the right place.

6M Design Technology
We have been treading needles and sewing together our designs! Not as easy as we thought but we didn’t give up!
Baking gingerbread men
This half term, we have been using The Gingerbread Man as our vehicle text – we have even learnt how to retell it from start to finish! To mark the end of this text, we have baked our own gingerbread men! Mrs Sefton was careful to watch the oven the whole time to make sure they didn’t run away…as we know, they are quite fast!

4D have spent the week exploring circuits and designing structures. We finished the week creating our very own light up lighthouses 💡
Dt week
What a busy week it’s been! To celebrate Diwali, year 5 made samosas for DT. We combined vegetables and a range of spices into a mixture and then folded them into filo pastry.
DT Week
This week, 3M have enjoyed making their own moving picture book page. We evaluated other moving books, then designed and made our own page based on The Iron Man which we have been reading in English.
Black History Month
We used play dough to create faces, and then used pipe cleaners and google eyes to make a smiley face. We talked about how all our faces are different – different colour hair, different colour skin, different colour eyes too! We read a beautiful book called The Colours of Us.
DT Week – looking at structures
We spent some time looking at structures in our outdoor area. We looked at the kind of materials that had been used, and how they had been connected together to make them strong. We even had a quick turn on some of the equipment!

DT Week/Black History Month
Our designer/inventor that we have been learning about is Lonnie Johnson. He invented the nerf gun! We talked about what an inventor is, and how inventors turn their ideas into something real and amazing. We learned a little about Lonnie Johnson, and talked about nerf guns.

Design and Technology Week
For DT Week 3McK have been making their own moving picture book page. We researched different moving books to understand the different mechanisms, then designed and created our own based on The Iron Man which we have been reading in English.

Today we shared our final ‘Moving Pictures’ with Reception. They really enjoyed exploring the sliders and watching the characters move.
DT Week🌳
During DT week, we used a range of joining skills to create our own trees inspired by the story The Something, which we had been learning about in Literacy. We carefully designed and built our trees, exploring different ways to attach materials securely. To make them extra special, we gave our trees an autumn theme by adding colourful autumn leaves, linking to our learning about the seasons. It was a fun and creative week where we combined our DT and Literacy skills to bring our story to life!
DT Week 🧁
During DT Week, we learnt all about Mary Berry and followed one of her delicious cake recipes. Since it was Halloween, we made our cakes extra special by shaping them into spooky ghosts! We had so much fun baking, decorating, and using our DT skills to bring our ghostly treats to life.
Y2 Smoothies in DT
Just before half term, Year 2 made some frightfully good smoothies from scratch during DT week. Choosing ingredients, preparing, blending and enjoying their smoothies all while dressed up in their brilliant costumes!
Baking cherry scones
We’ve made cherry scones! We carefully followed the steps on the recipe, and we are now patiently waiting for them to cook. Sorry to our families if children come home covered in flour! But we had so much fun.

Year 6 – DT sewing
Year 6 worked really hard researching, designing and creating bags for a range of purposes.
Big cook, little cook
We enjoyed making our own sausage rolls in our cooking session this week. We had to carefully roll the pastry around the sausage, then brush them with milk! This was trickier than it looks, and some of them kept tricking us by unrolling themselves! We then enjoyed them at snack time (some children enjoyed some delicious meat free rolls too 🥰)
Banana muffins
This week, we made banana muffins! We carefully weighed out the ingredients…but mashing the bananas was definitely our favourite bit! They really were delicious 😋

Big cook, little cook focussed on a particular skill this week – we have been learning how to spread! It’s a lot harder than you think!

Stick Man – Julia Donaldson
This week we also explored the book Stick Man. We went into our outdoor environment to collect sticks, which we used to make our very own Stick Man models. Using our DT joining skills, we attached the sticks together with string. Finally, we added faces to complete our Stick Man.
Hanukkah
This week Reception have been learning all about the Jewish celebration Hanukkah. We made our own menorahs and potato latkes. To make the menorahs we cut a paper plate in half and painted it gold with a big paintbrush.
To make our potato latkes we mashed the potatoes and grated the onions. Then we mixed the flour and salt into the mixture.
Big Cook Little Cook
We made a reindeer this week! Constructing with different foods is a really tricky skill. It requires steady hands, patience, but there is also an element of speed too before the ingredients start to melt! The children did an amazing job, and they tasted pretty good too!

Christmas Decorations
Today reception have made their own Christmas decorations out of salt dough. We added salt, flour and water to a bowl. Then we mixed them together and rolled them out using a rolling pin. We used different moulds to create our own decorations.
Reindeer Food
Reception have created their own reindeer food to help guide Santa’s reindeers. We measured oats and magic into a pot, then we mixed it up and poured it into a small bag.
Y6 Cookery- Food for Thought
We have learnt how to chop onions, parsnips, celery, carrots and garlic! The onions made us cry! But it was worth it because it made our soup taste delicious. There are definitely some future chefs in the making at Stockton Wood.
Hanukkah – Latkes
During our time learning about Hanukkah, we made latkes. We grated the onion and potatoes, mashed them together, and added all the ingredients before putting the mixture into the oven. We then all got to try the latkes, they were very delicious.
Christmas Crafts 🎄
We have been making lots of different crafts for Christmas. We made calendars, cards, reindeer dust, snow globes, and stockings. We had lots of fun using our imagination and creativity while making these crafts.
Problem solving
The children began to build ramps for the cars this morning, but the cars were not moving as fast as they’d like. They started to look around the classroom for resources to make the ramps bigger – and they found the water runs! The children quickly noticed that the higher the ramps, the faster they went! They worked together as a team to build different ramps.
KS1 Yard Fun!
Year 1 and Year 2 have been having a brilliant time making use of the new materials on the Key Stage 1 yard!
The Three Little Pigs
Mr Boyd surprised us with some huge boxes, so we did what we do best…we turned them into something really fun! We have been learning about the three little pigs story, and so Mrs Sefton got to work and with the help of the children, we created the 3rd little pigs house of bricks! 🧱 The children loved retelling the story together
Winter Animals
This week Reception are exploring winter animals. We have begun to explore what animals hibernate and why. We have built dens for the bears and hedgehogs to hibernate in. We have also discussed animals that live in the Arctic and Antarctica such as penguins, polar bears and arctic foxes.
People Who Help Us
This week Reception are exploring people who help us. We have discussed police men and women, fire men and women, doctors, dentists, nurses, teachers and shop assistants. We have also discussed what we would like to be when we grow up!
The Leaning Tower of Pisa!
The children really impressed us today with their building skills! They worked as a team and built this tower, and used the book for reference. It even leans slightly! How amazing!
Stay and Learn
Reception had fun showing their adults our learning. Today we focused on children’s mental health. We created friendship bracelets, worry jars, worry monsters and made friendship cards.
Shrove Tuesday
Today Reception learnt all about the Christian celebration of Shrove Tuesday. We learnt that next Tuesday Christians might celebrate Shrove Tuesday by making pancakes to mark the beginning of lent. Today we made our own pancakes using; chocolate, lemon, sugar, syrup and banana. We used a knife to spread the chocolate and syrup and to cut the banana.
Vegetable Pasta Bake
We used our chopping skills to cut lots of different vegetables ready for our pasta bake! We waited patiently for it to cook, and then tasted it for snack. Some of us even had seconds…and thirds!

Making ‘signs’ and mazes
Some of the boys began to create ‘signs’ on the carpet – they told us it said “STOP” for the cars. Then one of our friends suggested we turn it into a “cool maze” for the cars!

This week in DT Year 4 researched, designed and created their own desk tidies.
DT Week
For DT week reception have made a fruit salad. They used a knife to cut up the different fruits. We had mango, banana, strawberry, pineapple and kiwi. After making our fruit salad we tried the different pieces of fruit.
Year 6 DT- Making Pizza
Year 6 enjoyed tasting and researching different pizzas, analysing the different ingredients and looking at the nutritional values.
The 3 Little Pigs Houses!
Today, as part of DT week, we built the houses for the three little pigs! One made of straw (shredded wheat!), one made of sticks (chocolate fingers!), and one made of bricks (chocolate chunks!). We also enjoyed eating them afterwards 😋

What a busy week! This week 5H have been making an electrical hand held buzzer game in groups, which involved great team work skills, design and retrieval of how circuits work. They all did a great job👏 !
