Year 6 History
Year 6 identified the difference between Primary and Secondary sources during our history lesson this week. The sources were about the Slave Trade and the impact it had on people’s lives.

6B loved completing the Big Friday Quiz today- there was a lot of retrieval from within our year group as well as previous years!
6B Shadow Experiment
6B investigated how shadows change size depending on the distance from a light source.
Year 6 – Anfield – Diversity Workshop
This afternoon pupils from Year 6 went to Anfield to attend a Diversity Awareness Workshop. They asked some super questions and demonstrated a really inclusive attitude – we were really proud of them.
Year 6 KinBall
We sent a Year 6 team to compete in a KinBall competition last week and we came second! Well done everyone involved.
Year 6- Dogs Trust Assembly
Year 6 found the Dogs Trust assembly very beneficial, as it taught them how to approach a dog safely and what to do if an unknown dog approaches them.

Year 6 DT Week- Making Pizza
6B enjoyed researching different types of pizzas, focusing on the nutritional values and of course the taste!
CO (Carbon Monoxide) safety assembly!
We learnt an important message today about Carbon Monoxide (otherwise known as CO) safety.
You can’t see it, hear it, smell it, taste it or touch it!
Homework task:
- Check if you have a CO alarm in your home!
- Make a note of the signs and symptoms to look out for and also the number to call if you suspect any CO in your home.

This week we have had great fun comparing, designing and making pizza.

School Council meeting
Our school council were busy this morning, thinking of ideas for special rewards for reading at home and also for charities to donate to as part of our Social Impact Schools Award.

6B used a range of sources from the Slave Trade (both Primary and Secondary) to decide whether or not we should be proud of Liverpool’s history and it’s link with the Triangular Trading system.

Reading Cafe
Year 5 and 6 had a wonderful time at our reading cafe yesterday, as part of the National Literacy event. We enjoyed finding new books, having a biscuit and a drink and even being able to take that book home!

Year 6- Drawing shapes accurately
6B worked hard using a ruler and a protractor to measure and draw both angles and lengths accurately.
6MR – In Geography we have been learning about changes in our local area over time.
Neurodiversity Celebration Week
A huge thank you to Mr Boyd for hanging our neurodiversity umbrellas! Neurodiversity is an umbrella term used to refer to all of the different ways of thinking. This week the children are learning about Autism, Dyslexia, ADHD and Dyspraxia. Ask your child if they know any famous people who are neurodivergant!

6B loved our Science retrieval session focusing on previous learning from KS2. The children had to work together to plot specific bones and organs onto a life-size human body!

The children have worked so hard and they remain very positive about next week’s assessments. Ruby-Mae is a natural, born teacher and has been helping others during break time.
We have had Quiet Place massage and some reading time for our well-being. Jack and Carter chose to read the weekly newspapers for!

We are unbelievably proud of our Year 6 children for absolutely smashing their Year 6 SATs this week! They have shown such maturity and resilience, but most of all, they have had fun! Well done Year 6!
Year 6 Sports Day!
Year 6 had a fantastic day celebrating all the sporting achievements yesterday. All the children showed great enthusiasm and it was great seeing the parents join in as well!
Year 6 SATs Treat
Year 6 had a fantastic day at Old Trafford Cricket Ground celebrating all their hard work towards SATs. The day was filled with lots of activities and great laughs were had all round.
Maths- Class 6MR
We constructed 3D shapes from nets which helped us to develop our spatial reasoning and problem-solving skills. A fun and engaging way to explore 3D shapes, their properties and the relationships between 2D and 3D forms.
Year 6 Angles
Year 6 enjoyed applying their knowledge of shape to solve different angles created on the classroom tables. The children used protractors and specific rules to ensure all the angles were correct and precise.
6MR- Democracy in Britain
In small groups, the children formed a political party and produced a manifesto which outlined their main policies. Each party chose an election candidate who had to present a speech to persuade voters to vote for them! Congratulations to The Electors who won the majority vote!
Science Investigation
We planned an experiment to find out if the duration of exercise affects our heart rate. We had to think about independent, dependent and controlled variables to ensure that it was a fair test. We used stopwatches to time our heart beats per minute and recorded our results. We discovered that the longer the duration of exercise, the higher the heart rate ❤️ We are now exhausted 😆
Author Visit
Y6 enjoyed finding out about Luke Temple’s books in our author visit today!

Luke Temple will be back in school tomorrow to sign a copy of his book if you wish to buy one!
KS2 Author visit – Luke Temple
Luke shared his fantastic adventure stories with us this morning. The main character is called Felix Dashwood and Luke helped us to bring the characters to life and explore the problems that they come across.
We had a chance to ask Luke some great questions and see how the illustrator brings his characters to life too!
Signed books about Felix’s adventures and the characters she meets on her way, will be on sale in school tomorrow!
Cricket
A fantastic day of cricket in upper KS2 today. Huge thanks to Paul from Lancashire Cricket Club for delivering the sessions. Great fun at the end with a staff v pupils game! We have some incredible batters, fast bowlers, wicket keepers and fielders. Thanks to Y5 and Y6 for making it such an enjoyable day and a big shout out to all staff who were brave enough to take part! Think we’ll all sleep well tonight!
Art
Class 6MR have been finding out about an incredible architect called Zaha Hadid. She designed the most amazing buildings and we discovered that she designed some funky looking shoes as well! Not sure we’d be able to walk in them though 😂
Aspirations Week
In Class 6MR, we have a designer, a teacher, a gymnast, a Thai boxer, a nail technician and a dance teacher! We also had footballers and engineers! Whatever you aspire to be in the future, do it with kindness and care!

In assembly, we discussed what it means to have aspirations.
We had the chance to dress up in the role that we aspire to be when we are older.
Refugee week
Our assembly today was about raising awareness of what it means to be a refugee – Community is a superpower!
Many countries have many people that are forced to flee for their safety.
One of our children ended assembly with her own thoughts on being a community – “People are getting used to being around different types of people and the world is a colourful place!”
Community is a Superpower
Y6 were inspired by Mrs Clovis’ assembly during refugee week. They thought about all the people who have to flee their own countries, looking for a safe place for themselves and their children. They designed some posters to show how communities can bring people together; bridge divides and offer support and safe spaces. Community is the incredible everyday. Simple acts of shared generosity and kindness can become an unstoppable force.
Aspirations Week
As part of our aspirations week, Abbie came into school to speak to us about mechanical engineering. She was an inspiration to us all! We enjoyed the building bridges challenge. The bridges that were built by Carter, Jacob, Ana and Sapphire were strong enough to hold 3 to 4 metal spanners! We have some fabulous creative problem solvers in Y6!

Year 6 Residential
The children arrived in high spirits ready for the adventures over the next few days.

Year 6 had to work together to build a raft which would float and and travel 200m. Were they able to do it….

What’s the Risk?
Class 6 MR have been exploring risk taking and risk factors in PSHE. The children rated themselves on a range of statements as ‘high risk’ or ‘low risk’. They discovered that we all assess risk in a different way and the more aware we are of the possible risks, the more able we are to make choices that keep us safe.

The children had to use their aiming skills to try and hit the bullseye when completing our archery activity!

The children had to test themselves when facing the heights of the aerial trek! They definitely conquered their fears! We were all so proud of you!
Y6 Transition Live!
We enjoyed watching pupils from secondary schools across Liverpool talking about the transition from primary to secondary school. We had the opportunity to take part in a slido vote to express our worries. We also had the opportunity to ask questions to the Y7 pupils about travelling to school, homework, timings and activities and trips. Class 6MR said that they were most excited about meeting new friends.

We took to the heights and explored both layers of the Aerial Trek apparatus.
Y6 Art
We have been looking at inspirational architecture. Zaha Hadid was an Iraqi-born British architect, artist and designer. She designed the iconic Heydar Aliyev Centre in Azerbaijan which is famous for its distinctive flowing, curved style. We studied wavy lines and we upscaled a picture of her famous building.
Y5/6 Cricket Tournament
A huge well done to all those children who represented Stockton Wood at the cricket tournament this afternoon. They demonstrated a positive and resilient attitude and came 2nd place.
National Literacy Event
Years 5 and 6 enjoyed a visit from a storyteller and poet. It was fantastic to see the children engaged for over an hour, listening to his wonderful tales.

We have really enjoyed reading Matt’s book- The Final Year. He tells the story through poetry and it was brilliant to see him talking about the book on our author zoom!

School council met yesterday to launch a competition to design a logo for the Cradle to Career Project in Speke.
The Cradle to Career Project would appreciate your involvement and there will be a £40 Cineworld voucher for the winning entry (other local schools are also taking part).
Your child will need to hand in their entries to their teacher, by Friday 10th October.

Our school council have been busy helping to shape a local woodland space. One of the many things we suggested were animal carvings to make it a welcoming and creative place for the whole community to enjoy!
Remember to look out for them around All Saints Church, as the area is further developed.

Year 5 & 6 Anthony Walker Foundation assembly
Today we had an assembly to discuss the Anthony Walker foundation and the importance of being kind and standing up for each other.
We learnt that although we are all different, we also have lots in common and it is important to recognise that our differences are what makes us special.
P.E. Advent
Today’s task was to jump for 1 minute and spin round on a multiple of ten! Exhausting!
Choir
On Friday, our choir visited Liverpool John Lennon Airport. We raised £217.91 which will go towards improving our outdoor play!
Y6 Cookery- Food for Thought
We have learnt how to chop onions, parsnips, celery, carrots and garlic! The onions made us cry! But it was worth it because it made our soup taste delicious. There are definitely some future chefs in the making at Stockton Wood.
Year 6 – Retrieval through a silent conversation.
Firstly, we wrote down any thoughts or questions that we had about the image / word, relating to Hinduism, on the paper.
Then, we had to think about what others had written, and if anyone had an answer or contribution, they could add it as a response.
Finally, we broke the silence and discussed the importance of each image or word, in the life of a Hindu.
Year 6 Light
Today we learnt about a solar eclipse and how the moon blocks the sunlight from reaching the Earth. We understood how the moon casts a shadow on the Earth, as it passes between the Earth and the sun.
Year 6 Music Re-imagined
Today we listened to and watched Vivaldi”s “The Four Seasons” and compared it with a “Regenerate: Seasons for change” piece of music.
Using YuStudio as the platform, we will create our very own “Spring soundscape” which we hope will capture elements of climate change and the effects of global warming.
Year 6 English Research
This morning we were gathering ideas to help us to write a detailed discovery narrative.
Year 6 Reading Buddies
Year 6 enjoyed sharing stories with our Year 2 Reading Buddy Class- 2S and 2D. The children took it in turns reading to each other and some Year 6s even asked questions to ensure the Year 2s understood what they had read.

We can choose to show the number through any means of CPA (C- concrete resources, P- pictorial, A- abstract).
Year 6 Maths Challenge- Ratio
Year 6 showed excellent Maths resilience when using concrete resources to make different ratio amounts. They focused on the relationship between multiplication and division when simplifying.

Class 2P were joined by some wonderfully helpful Year 6’s yesterday afternoon to be our Reading Buddies! We’re looking forward to having them back again soon!

School Council – Liverpool Cathedral
Our children attended Liverpool Anglican Cathedral to celebrate a fun and interactive Christingle service. Although this took place later than Christmas, the service was held as a fundraising event in support of The Children”s Society, helping to raise money for their important work with young people and families. As always, our children made us proud.

We compared two contrasting musical interpretations of Spring. Now we are creating our own musical soundscape of Spring with a climate change theme.
Year 6 French
Today we had some confident French speakers that told us the day and the type of weather in the morning and afternoon. The rest of us had to listen and translate into English.

Mighty Red and Wendy came to our school to tell us the exciting news about the ‘Feed your mind’ programme.
We get to choose a book to take home and then using a QR code, we can write a review to help others to decide if they would like that book next.

Year 6 used concrete resources when introducing their new topic, algebra. We focused on creating different forms of expressions and how to simplify them.
Liverpool Foundation- Feed Your Mind assembly
We all enjoyed our assembly with the Liverpool Foundation about the importance of reading. We are excited to win books from the selection donated to us by the Liverpool Foundation. Don’t forget to scan the QR code and write a review on the book you choose!
Year 6 Data Art Project
Year 6 have had a fantastic day at the Liverpool ACC producing artwork with different artists linked to data about their lives. 6B created a way finder pole and used handmade felted symbols to represent the information.

6M had the best day at Liverpool ACC creating artwork linked to data collected about the lives of those living in Merseyside.
Together we created a large, walkable labyrinth, using colours, artwork and 3D objects that represent well-being data from the Liverpool City Region.
The children thoroughly enjoyed the event and represented our school beautifully.

Our fabulous artist Elaine, commented on how impressed she was with the children’s enthusiasm, commitment and dedication. She particularly noted that 6M were inspiring.

PE – Cricket
Year 6 have been practicing their bowling skills.
The children had to aim for the wickets with precision and technique, and it’s clear to see that we have some very strong, overarm bowlers in year 6!
Year 6 Heart Explorers!
Today, 6M became real scientists, investigating a heart through hands on dissection. With curiosity and care, they explored how this vital organ keeps our bodies alive – science brought to life!
If you see them around school, ask the children how the heart works to test their retrieval skills.

Year 6- Science Heart Dissection
Year 6 have been learning about the circulatory system and how it works in Science this half term. We finished the topic off by dissecting lamb hearts to identify the different chambers and discuss their purposes.

Our Eco Warriors are taking part in Food for Thought’s ‘Grow with us’ project to develop our school gardens and make our school more sustainable.

Liverpool Football Club- World Book Day Event
What a fabulous day at LFC for their belated World Book Day Event. We met Ben Lyttleton, the author of a series of books called ‘Football School’. We met Mighty Red- the LFC mascot- and we took part in some great activities. We designed our own book front cover and we designed an outfit for a fashion show. The children were an absolute pleasure and were brilliant ambassadors for our school.
PE – Cricket
Year 6 put their knowledge and skills into practice. We have some brilliant batters and bowlers!
Year 6 – Debate
During our RE lesson, the children had a class debate about the following question:
‘Does Jesus’ resurrection really make a difference to life today?’
The children had to use their knowledge to think of reasons that people would agree and disagree with this question and then argue their point.
Year 6 Stay and Learn
Year 6 enjoyed welcoming our parents into class this week to complete science based activities. We had to work together to locate and draw the organs and bones in the correct places within the body.

Thank you to our fabulous parents who came along to support Stay and Learn this week. We had great fun trying to place bones and organs in the correct place on the human body. We had some interesting final bodies 😂
Year 6 – A visit from Rev Phil
Reverend Phil visited today to answer questions about what difference the resurrection makes to Christians. A big thank you for such an interesting and thoughtful discussion!
