Y2 computing
Today 2D have worked with Mr. Moffatt to use Scratch Jr to make our characters talk, and even tell jokes!

Y2 Maths
2D have been working out groups of to write multiplication sentences today.


Year 2 Computing
This week year 2 used scratch to programme two characters to talk to each other. We had to input what we wanted them to say, and also make the other character wait and then reply.


Year 2 Music
2S love their weekly music session. Here we are warming up our faces and our voices ready to learn our new song ‘Music is in me.’ This songs requires a choral response which was tricky to learn.


Year 2 Reading
Another fun time exploring books in our library, we even found books about the victorians which ties into our History topic all about Kitty Wilkinson.



Y2 PE
Wow! Year 2 had a fantastic time at New Age Kurling competition at Banks Road.






Year 2 Ready Steady Comprehension
What a lot of fun we had performing our poems in our session this morning. Lots of confident performances with lots of expression! I was very proud of all of the children- Mrs Kent 🙂

2D have been learning the “dge” and “ge” spelling patterns by spelling them on each other’s backs and hands

We researched puppets and designed our own on the first day of DT week.





School Council meeting
Our school council were busy this morning, thinking of ideas for special rewards for reading at home and also for charities to donate to as part of our Social Impact Schools Award.


Y2 English
2D were fabulous actors after investigating the clues and predicting what our new text was about.




Year 2 collaboration
Wow! We had a fantastic collaborative story session with our new friends in Qatar!




Y2 Stay and Learn
2D enjoyed sharing their learning with their parents and carers practising their multiplication facts.





Year 2 Partnership week
We have partnered with a school from Doha and will continue to link up with them. This time we read stories to each other’s class and will review them for one another.



DT week
2S made puppets in DT week, first we tested out puppets as part of our research phase



Year 2 Scarf/PSHE
In scarf we discussed secrets and how some secrets are nice to keep like birthday surprises. Secrets that make us sad or worried should always be shared with a trusted adult. We used drama skills to bring this learning to life.



Year 2 Computing
This half term we are working with Mr Moffat to show how computers show data and information. This week we made pictograms of the classes favourite fruits.


Year 2 Music
This week in music we learnt a new song and played the Glockenspiel’s to the music. Eventually we will be able to play along to the song as others sing it.


Year 2 PE
This half term we are learning Net and Wall games skills like tennis and volleyball. We learnt that even when the ball is not in our possession we need to be ready to receive it and need to protect our space.


Year 2 English
We have received another top secret book! We made predictions on what we think the book will be about.

”Different birds need different shaped beaks to pick up different types of food.”
Super discussion during the first day of Science Week- during Beak Buffet 2D tested out different “beaks” for picking up food and discussed which were the best.

”When you touched the coloured milk with the cotton bud, it looked like little clouds.” 2D carried out a magic milk experiment to explore how things changed when they are mixed.

Today we worked with Mr Moffatt to explore Indi robots and how they move- we worked out how to use the base boards to make it move in different directions.

Science Week
We looked at how birds have adapted to pick things up with their beaks by picking up objects with various things. We decided that the spoons were the best.


Year 2 Computing and Science
Another element of science week is computing. This week we looked at robots. We programmed the robots to move based on the colours they register.


Year 2 Music
This week 2D and 2S combined together to learn yet song: The Music Man. We loved adding actions to the music and moving to the beat.


Science week
We had a real life rocket engineer speak to us this week, he answered our questions about rockets and what it takes to be an engineer. We will keep practicing our science and maths!


Year 2 P.E
Carrying on with our net and ball skills, this week we practiced serving the ball to our friends. We realised that to do it accurately we need to use less power and point our arm in a straight line.


Neurodiversity Celebration Week
A huge thank you to Mr Boyd for hanging our neurodiversity umbrellas! Neurodiversity is an umbrella term used to refer to all of the different ways of thinking. This week the children are learning about Autism, Dyslexia, ADHD and Dyspraxia. Ask your child if they know any famous people who are neurodivergant!

Today 2D worked with Mr Moffatt to create fact files including text, drawings and stickers.





Neurodiversity Week
To celebrate Neurodiversity Week we have been learning about how we all have different brains with different needs. Some people find things like sitting still and taking turns hard but we know that we need to be extra kind and patient to everyone’s needs.


Year 2 Art
This week was art week, we created sculptures using paper folding and cutting techniques. We learnt what a sculpture is and thought of ways to improve our creations.


Year 2 Music
This week we learnt how to play the glockenspiels for the ‘Music Man’ song and performed the song for the final time.


Year 2 Maths
This week we looked at capacity, here we are comparing the capacity of different containers.


Year 2 Computing
This week in our data work we created fact files about ourselves using our typing skills and drawing skills to add to each field.


Year 2 PE
This week in our net and ball work we used tennis racquets! We learnt how to hold the racquet and how to stop a moving ball with it. Some of us can now also balance the ball on it too.


Y2 Matball competition
Wow! Our Y2 superstars blew away the opposition with an amazing performance in the matball competition!






Y2 Science
Today 2D went on a mini beast hunt during their science lesson on microhabitats.

This week we studied micro habitats. We went in the hunt for some mini beasts in our school grounds.


Year 2 Scarf
This week we talked about our safe spaces. We made a list of our my special places where we go to be calm and happy. We acted out being in a safe and unsafe place.

Y2 have made Easter baskets and been on an Easter egg hunt today! We hope you all have a lovely Easter break.







Year 2 Stay and Learn
Thank you to all of the parents who attended our stay and learn. This time we learnt about food chains and created some food chains of our own.


Year 2 History
This week we started learning about the famous nurse Mary Seacole! We learnt that she made remedies for the soldiers fighting in the war, so we made our own remedies.



Year 2 English
This week we started reading The King Who Banned the Dark. We used drama to persuade the king that banning the dark world not be good.


Y2 English
Using our ideas for and against banning the dark, we completed a conscience alley activity.



Year 2 Scarf/PSHE
This week we looked at the ‘learning line’ which shows that when you try something new you may not be good at first, the important thing is to not give up. We tried a new skill and encouraged our friends to not give up



Y2 History
To start our new history topic, we learned about Mary Seacole and even made remedies using ingredients to role play helping the sick and injured soldiers.





Y2 PE
2D loved their PE session with Mr Moran today- they have participated in team games using underarm ball skills.





Y2 English
2D used role play to come up with ideas about why the dark shouldn’t be banned- the King didn’t always agree with his advisors!





Year 2 PE
This week we practiced our underarm throws for control and precision. First we slowly bowled the ball on the floor and then we threw it accurately.


Year 2 Computing
This week we learnt how to properly type using a keyboard playing the games on Typing Club, this is a free resource you can play with at home.


Year 2 Music
This week in music we learnt a new song ‘I wanna play in a band.’ we played our glockenspiels along with the song. We are getting better and better at this.


Y2 Science
2D enjoyed planting seeds for their science experiment to find out if plants grow better in warmer or colder places.





Y2 spellings
2D practised their spelling by writing the letters on each others backs! Suffix ly and ness this week. They love their Friday spelling quiz!




Y2 PE
Today we worked with Mr Moran, our sports coach, to practise our underarm throwing skills outside this morning in the beautiful weather!






Y2 DT Week- wheels and axles
Year 2 have been exploring wheeled toys and how their wheels and axles work, they have also been explaining what makes a good wheeled toy vehicle.

DT week in Y2 has been so much fun! We have researched and designed vehicles to collect rubbish on the beach- we have painted, used a saw and attached our axles and wheels to our vehicles using different methods to make our vehicles.

Congratulations to the amazing members of 2D who have earned certificates as part of the “If you were an engineer what would you do?” engineering project.

Today 2D spent time creating PowerPoints of emotions words; using skills of changing font style, size, colour and formatting backgrounds of the slides.






DT Week
Last week was DT week, we were tasked with making an eco friendly wheeled toy. We looked at real toys as part of our research.


Year 2 DT
After designing the cars we then got to create our toy. We painted and added design elements to make it stand out.




Sports Day
Thank you for all who attended sports day to make it a special day for our children.





Y2 PSHE
We played a game using dice to find the functions of different parts of our bodies. We completed our end of unit assessment showing what we know.





Y2 computing
We combined text and graphics today to share information about our History learning. We enjoyed retrieving facts about Mary Seacole and Florence Nightingale.




Scarf/PSHE
This week we looked at the functions of our human body, we learnt about what our brains, lungs, and intestines do to keep our bodies working. We did this by playing a fun game of matching with dice.


Year 2 P.E
This week we practiced batting and fielding skills, we had to work on batting the ball into a space no one was guarding. Our other friends had to work on finding space and being ready to catch at any time.


Author Visit
Such a lovely time today with our visiting Author Luke Temple. We listened carefully to different extracts from three of his books and asked a range of questions. Which book would you like to read in full?

Year 2 Music
Year 2 learnt the song ‘sunshine’ before improvising with our instruments. Here we are warming up for our music lesson.


Year 2 Science
This week we have been looking at the life cycles of butterflies. To show this we have got our very own caterpillars to study. At the moment they are very small but soon they will enter their pupa stage and become butterflies.


Year 2 P.E
This week we started our topic of athletics. To start this we learnt the correct form to sprint, trying to do big strides and pumping our arms as we go. We found this helped us go faster.



Aspirations Week
Year 1, 2 and 3 are off to a great start to our Aspirations week today. We all got together to talk about what we wanted to be when we grow up.



Y2 Aspirations Week
Today, as part of aspirations week, Year 2 met with Kate and Josh who are paramedics… they told us all about their job and let us look at the equipment they use.

2D started Aspirations Week on a high, dressing up as the career they aspire to have when they’re older.

Today 2D participated in a range of circuit activities with the sports coach in PE- using balancing, dribbling, hand eye coordination and cardio fitness to improve their skills.

Year 2 had a lovely time at the Philharmonic Hall… they sang, danced and watched the artist paint to the music!





Y2 Aspirations Week
Thank you to Becky the blood technician who visited us in school today. She told us all about her job, what she wears and the equipment she uses. Some of us now definitely want to be scientists when we are bigger!


Y2 Quidditch!
2D loved taking part in quidditch today; we practised our team games skills, working together and communicating to catch the Golden Snitch.










Y2 Art Week
Y2 have made a super start to art week – they have been colour mixing to make different shades and tones of red and yellow.





Y2 Art Week
Y2 have been researching the artist, David Hockney and finding out about his work. They have started to draw their own landscape in the style of one of his paintings, Garrowby Hill.






Science
Our butterflies finally got big enough to be released into wild. We enjoyed watching them grow but had to say goodbye to them.



Computing
We continued learning about online safety, this week we discovered that people online may not be trustworthy. We made a poster about being safe when playing online games, we know to stay away from strangers and to only talk with our trusted friends.


Y2 Maths
Today Y2 have been improving their calculation strategies by bridging multiples of 10. They have used concrete and pictorial methods to help them.




Y2 RE
This week we have been learning about kindness and gratitude in RE. We wanted to say a special thank you to people who help us in school every day! We made cards and hand delivered them.









Year 2 English
We came in today to find clues all about our new mystery book. We had to guess what our story was about and make predictions.
