Year 4 ~ History : DEVA Chester


Today, Year 4 had an exciting day in Chester. We learnt all about life in the Roman times and we even got to be a Roman soldier for the afternoon!

YEAR 4 ROMAN TRIP
Year 4 had an exciting day exploring the Deva Roman Experience. We learnt about life during Roman times and we really enjoyed getting to be a Roman soldier going to battle.




Year 6 History
Year 6 identified the difference between Primary and Secondary sources during our history lesson this week. The sources were about the Slave Trade and the impact it had on people’s lives.





Year One – Stay and Learn
We’ve had a fun filled afternoon learning all about the history of St Valentine and used our problem solving skills to solve calculations using numbers up to 20.

Year 6- Should we be proud of Liverpool’s past?
6B used a range of sources from the Slave Trade (both Primary and Secondary) to decide whether or not we should be proud of Liverpool’s history and it’s link with the Triangular Trading system.

Year 3- World Museum Trip
Year 3 had a wonderful time at the World Museum. We enjoyed looking around the Ancient Egyptian exhibition and finding artefacts that we have learned about. We also enjoyed the workshop where we completed activities about Ancient Egypt.









Year 2 History
This week we started learning about the famous nurse Mary Seacole! We learnt that she made remedies for the soldiers fighting in the war, so we made our own remedies.



Y2 History
To start our new history topic, we learned about Mary Seacole and even made remedies using ingredients to role play helping the sick and injured soldiers.

Researching Anglo-Saxons
We have been learning about Anglo-Saxon’s beliefs. We used our web search skills from our computing lessons to guide our research. It helped us find accurate and reliable information.



Year One – History
Lovely History lesson today in Year One. We have been comparing photographs of shops in Speke in 1990’s to present day. What did you notice?





Y2 computing
We combined text and graphics today to share information about our History learning. We enjoyed retrieving facts about Mary Seacole and Florence Nightingale.




Cave Drawing
Today, 3M kickstarted their History topic (The Stone Age) by creating their very own cave drawings.












Year 6 History
The children are enjoying learning about World War2! We love the tin hat!





Black History Month
Year 3 had an assembly on Black History Month this morning. We learned about key figures who paved the way for positive changes in society and discussed who is there to support us and on our team.





Space Week


This week is Space Week! So we spent some time reading the story ‘Look Up’, about a little girl who loves all things space. We used our binoculars and telescopes to “look up” just like she did. We talked about some of the things we might see in Space, and talked about some of the people that had been to space in real life. Did you know, Mae Jemison was the first African American woman to travel into space?! #blackhistorymonth #spaceweek

Samuel Pepys Visits Year 2!
Year 2 had a visit from Samuel Pepys for a fantastic workshop on the Great Fire of London! 2P showed off their historical knowledge and played some excellent team games.





The colour of us









We read ‘The Colour of Us’ today as part of our PSHE lesson, which linked really well with our learning of Black History Month. We spent some time looking at our own face in the mirror and talking about what we could see. We talked about the ‘skin colour rainbow’ in the book and added our own hands to the rainbow. Did you know that every persons skin colour is unique to them?! That’s part of what makes us special 🥰

Today in Reception we explored how we are different and how we are the same! We looked at our hair colour, eye colour and skin colour. We discussed how even if we look different we are the same inside and we should always be kind to everyone!

In Year 4, we have been learning about Katherine Johnson’s amazing contributions in sending astronauts to space.

Year 5 have learnt about Benjamin Zephaniah this week, a famous poet from Birmingham with Jamaican decent, as part of Black History Month. They also wrote some passionate dub poetry in his style.





Learning what makes us special
Today, we read a story called ‘Hey you!’ by Dapo Adeola. This is a story about hope and dreams – we can dream anything, and we can be anything. It’s full of positive affirmations which we loved repeating. We talked about all the different attributes that make us special, including our skin colour. #blackhistorymonth

Road Safety/Black History Month
Did you know that traffic lights were invented by Garrett Morgan? Well, Nursery do! Today, we talked about how traffic lights help to keep us and drivers safe on our roads – J even said he is like a superhero for stopping cars from crashing as we talked about traffic lights giving cars each a turn to move safely. We had a talk about how to stay safe on roads when in a car, and how to cross the road safely.








History
We had a visit from Samuel Pepys in History. He taught us all about the Great Fire of London and helped us to learn about his diary through acting.
